da esport bet: Nathan Ake has told the Guardian that he wants to speak to manager Antonio Conte and technical director Michael Emenalo about his Chelsea future.
What’s the word?
da spicy bet: The 22-year-old is understandably in a sense of limbo having spent half the season on loan at Bournemouth and the rest back on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
The Dutchman, who can play at the back and also as a defensive midfielder, impressed on the South Coast, making 10 Premier League appearances in Eddie Howe’s side and even scoring three goals.
Ake was recalled by Conte in January, but he struggled for game time, featuring in two league fixtures and three FA Cup outings, one of which was the semi-final 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
In an interview with the Guardian, Ake has claimed that he is in the dark over his future, but wants a resolution.
“I just need to see what is going to happen with Michael [Emenalo] or the manager. We have to talk and see what is best.”
Does Ake deserve more game time?
Chelsea have a wealth of young talent in their ranks, but it is bordering on almost impossible for them to break into the first team.
Ake has had more chances than most, and in his limited appearances this season, he has shown that he has the attributes to force a way through.
A club of Chelsea’s calibre, though, does not always have the time to wait for young talent, particularly considering that they have the funds to bring in top players from all over the globe.
The door is slightly ajar for Ake to slot into the defence given that John Terry will be leaving this summer, but it is likely that Conte will delve into the market for an experienced centre-back.
The Mirror reported earlier this month that Bournemouth are keen to sign Ake on a permanent deal this summer, and they may switch their focus to the Dutchman given that they have secured the signature of Chelsea’s second-string goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
From the Blues’ point of view, though, it is time that they kept faith with some of the young guns, and Ake has shown glimpses that he may be worth investing in.
