Aston Villa are in contact with a huge club over the potential signing of a title-winning player this summer, according to a new update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Mings challenges Villa to aim big
The Villans get their new Premier League season underway with the visit of Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime, which promises to be a big test for both sides.
Neither have necessarily had the positive of summers, in terms of signing the players they want to, but Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings is once again targeting a European finish in 2025/26.
“Definitely European football again. It’s the toughest league in the world and the competition is always improving. Every time I look at the Premier League, the table and the teams that are in it and the squads that they have, it’s so hard. That’s what makes it so great and why so many people tune in around the world, because it’s so competitive.
“We don’t downplay how difficult every season is. The manager’s great at taking it one game at a time and how he prepares for games. It’s going to be a difficult season, but every season is difficult. Our ambition has to be European football again and has to be a trophy.”
There is still time for Villa to make signings in the summer transfer window, but the weeks are ticking by fast, and they have now been linked with a move for a title-winning player.
Aston Villa in contact over signing title-winning ace
According to Romano on X on Thursday evening, Aston Villa have contacted Barcelona over the possible availability of right-back Hector Fort this summer.
At 19, Fort would be arriving at Villa as one for the future, as well as an immediate squad option, providing good competition for Matty Cash at right-back.
The Villans are far from advanced in their efforts to sign the teenager, but if they could strike a deal for him, it could be fantastic business for years to come, with the defender capped across three youth age groups for Spain.

Fort has racked up 30 appearances for Barcelona, showing that he can shine for one of the world’s biggest teams, and he tasted La Liga glory with the Catalan giants last season.
The Spaniard is also capable of doing a job at left-back, if required, which could appeal to Emery, and the hope is that Villa pip other clubs to his signature, with Barca potentially happy for him to leave.
