da dobrowin: Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster is hoping to catch Gareth Southgate’s eye with his performances whilst on loan at the Scottish Premiership side from Southampton.
What did he say?
da betsson: Although there remains such high competition for places in the goalkeeping department with England and Jordan Pickford currently featuring as Southgate’s number one, Forster has not been deterred in his ambition to be re-selected in the future for the Three Lions, as confirmed in an interview with the Scottish Sun.
“I’d love to be a part of the England squad. I’d never close that door and I’d always want that to be an ambition of mine” said Forster.
“We went through the Champions League the last time, we’re going through the Europa League this year. It all comes down to me performing the best I can, whether it’s Europa League or in the league.
“If I’m doing that then it forces other people into making decisions. The main thing is I work hard and try to perform well here.”
Could Forster return to the England squad?
Forster, 31, last appeared in an England squad in October 2017, but has won six caps for his country since emerging onto the international stage.
Having recorded four clean sheets in nine starts so far this season – including featuring twice for Neil Lennon’s side in the Europa League – the keeper has commenced the 2019/20 campaign in strong form.
The Hoops will face off against Lazio in their third game of Group E, as they bid to keep hold of their top group spot and qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.
Performing in key games such as these will be crucial to Forster attracting the attention of Southgate and his coaching staff, but the ambition the Southampton loanee has shown is certainly a boost to his Three Lions hopes.
