da bet vitoria： Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan has made his desire to leave the Spanish capital clear this summer, with the Turkish midfielder set for a new challenge.
da bwin： The attacking midfielder’s agent has been vocal in the player’s dream of playing in the Premier League, with transfer rumours galore coming out of the woodwork as a result.
Of the English teams linked with a move for Turan, Manchester United and Chelsea have been most commonly mentioned.
But, which of these two Premier League powerhouses would be a better fit for the midfield schemer?
Turan’s role in Atletico’s rise to prominence in recent years under Diego Simeone should not be understated, with the Turk an important member of the Rojiblancos’ playing squad.
The former Galatasaray wide man operates on the right-hand side of Atletico’s four-man midfield, but also possesses the versatility to switch with Koke and play on the left.
Turan is renowned for his close control and ability to beat defenders despite a lack of real pace, while his clever link-up play and vision have led to countless Atletico goals over recent years.
The 28-year-old has a fiery temperament and an ardent will to win, so there’s every chance he will be a real success in England if and when he puts pen to paper on a deal with a Premier League team.
Chelsea
Chelsea have a recent track record of signing players from Atletico, with Diego Costa and Filipe Luis swapping the Vicente Calderon for Stamford Bridge.
Turan would surely relish the opportunity to link-up again with Costa in particular, with whom he struck up a venerable bond with Atleti during the team’s memorable 2013-14 campaign.
Looking at Jose Mourinho’s squad, the Portuguese manager is spoilt for choice all over the park and the right-hand side of the team’s midfield remains as tightly contested as ever.
Willian is more often than not selected as the preferred option in this position, however Juan Cuadrado and Ramires are also in the running for the role.
Many have failed to tie down regular football in this position, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Marko Marin and Mohamed Salah some of the right-sided players to left to get regular action.
Turan’s temperament would certainly fit in with the mentality of Mourinho, but his lack of desire to track back may well be a problem.
On the surface the Turk looks like a player that could add quality to Chelsea, without representing an ideal fit for a new signing.
Manchester United
Louis van Gaal’s men are embarking on a summer of rebuilding, with the Old Trafford outfit expected to put forward a Premier League title challenge next season.
Although other positions will be more of a priority for strengthening, there is certainly room to suggest that an intelligent and able footballer such as Turan could be a positive acquisition.
United need strong characters to lead the club back to the glory days and the Turkey international is a proven winner with a never-say-die attitude.
His creative ability and invention would make the Red Devils more of a dangerous side in the final third, but just where exactly he would fit into Van Gaal’s system remains to be seen.
With the recent signing of Memphis Depay, United have a host of wide players, including Angel Di Maria, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Adnan Januzaj.
Throwing Turan into the mix would be interesting, but could well mean the end of the road for some of the other wide options in the squad currently.
The Atletico man would be an impressive new signing for United but with the need for a central defender, dominant midfielder and a striker, the Red Devils may well feel that adding Turan is not a priority.
Verdict
Turan is more than good enough for both Chelsea and United, with the attacker offering either side added creativity and intelligence that would be of real benefit next season.
However, the Atletico man is more likely to get regular action at Old Trafford and as such would be a standout signing for Van Gaal’s men.
