da aviator aposta: According to reports in the Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined a number of clubs – including Real Madrid – in the race to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, who could cost more than £100m this summer.
What’s the word, then?
da dobrowin: Well, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen his squad this summer to ensure that they can challenge for the Premier League title next season, as well as compete in the Champions League having reached the qualifying stages with a fourth-place finish in the top flight.
Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United are all keen on the 18-year-old following an outstanding breakthrough campaign for the French outfit – helping them to win the Ligue 1 title – and Klopp is said to have held preliminary talks with his representatives.
How good was he this season?
He was outstanding.
While it of course is still early days in his young career, the teenager has already showed signs that he can go on to become one of the best players in Europe, if not the world.
The attacker scored 26 goals and provided a further 14 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions with six of those goals coming in just nine outings in the Champions League.
Pace, trickery, clinical finishing and the ability to find himself in the right place at the right time, Mbappe looks to have it all and it is no wonder that he is the most coveted young player in Europe right now.
Will Monaco sell him?
While the Ligue 1 champions will want to keep hold of their star man no matter what, it would surely be difficult if they received an offer in excess of £100m – a world-record fee.
Would he be a good signing for Liverpool?
There’s no doubt.
The Reds have been crying out for a consistent centre-forward with Roberto Firmino often filling in there this season and with Klopp seemingly not fancying Daniel Sturridge on a regular basis.
His finishing ability and all-round technical skills alongside the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane would make Liverpool an incredible attacking force.
Do they have a chance of getting him?
At this stage, you wouldn’t think so.
Mbappe may feel that at 18 years of age he should spend at least another season with Monaco to continue to develop, but even if he decides to move on a transfer to Real Madrid or even Arsenal would appear more likely.
Liverpool would also be making a real statement of intent if they spent more than £100m on a player, but that fee will surely be too much for them.
