da apostaganha: Dele Alli seems a potentially perfect solution to Jose Mourinho’s striker problem.
On the chalkboard
da bwin: Spurs are currently operating without an out-and-out forward due to Harry Kane’s injury.
Alli, though, has scored seven goals this season, in 18 Premier League appearances.
The England international netted in the 2-1 win over Norwich City and has played primarily as an attacking midfielder in 2019/20.
Per WhoScored, Alli averages 1.6 shots per game in the top-flight, 1.1 key passes, 1.5 dribbles and is also fouled 1.3 times across the 90 minutes. Defensively, he also makes 1.4 tackles per game and wins 0.8 aerial duels in each game.
This is a player who could potentially transition into a central role ahead of a fluid attacking trio of Son Heung-Min, Steven Bergwijn and Giovani Lo Celso at No.10.
He is 6 foot 2, the same height as Harry Kane, meaning that he offers the physical attributes needed to hold the ball up and also has the finishing ability to stick the ball into the back of the net with regularity.
Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?
A focal point
Mourinho clearly has a problem with their lack of height up front.
There is no ability for Spurs to send the ball forward and have it stick, purely because Lucas and Bergwijn are both under 6 foot, while Son is 6 foot on the nose.
However, playing Alli up front could kill two birds with one stone.
Lo Celso is in exceptional form and is an excellent No.10, a player who can dissect defences both with passes and with exceptional dribbling.
Alli and he could surely both play in the playmaker role, but moving the Englishman further forward could see both thrive.
It would also add to the fluidity of the front line, with Alli potentially able to swap positions with the likes of Lucas, Bergwijn, and Son.
It is a new option for Mourinho, that is for sure.
Meanwhile, Spurs almost signed a superstar in January!
