Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to drool over Japhet Tanganga’s display against Manchester City on Sunday.
The 20-year-old was making just his fifth senior appearance of the campaign for the north Londoners, having broken into the team shortly after the turn of the year.
The Tottenham academy graduate started at left-back on the day, despite his main position being at centre-back – however, the youngster was still excellent against the reigning Premier League champions.
Tanganga helped Jose Mourinho record a 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola, making four tackles, four clearances, three interceptions and one block against the Citizens.
The Tottenham No.39 also embarked on one dribble and drew one foul from Manchester City, while having 53 touches of the ball – only Giovani Lo Celso had more touches than the England U20 international.
Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to Tanganga’s display…
To kick off the adoration over the defender’s performance, ‘The White Wall’ said that Tanganga was their Man of the Match against City, before adding that “the guy shows no fear and has the heart of a lion” – high praise indeed.
‘Glory Glory THFC’ then mentioned that the youngster rose to the occasion everytime moments of class, timing, technique and force were required, stating that “he’s got a huge level of composure”.
Elsewhere, Lee Gibbons said the London-born man is an “absolute athlete” and also mentioned that he is “gonna be a massive player for us” – on the basis of his showing on Sunday, it’s hard to argue with that claim.
Nigel Duxbury then asked where Mauricio Pochettino was looking when Tanganga “was around the place” – this fan also stated that the defender will “save us money” and “looks very comfortable in several positions”.
Lastly, another fan named Lee said that Tanganga is “immense” and “special”.
